Meet Mike and Rex, the founders of Mister’s Cafe & Bistro
Mike and Rex founded Mister's in 2020. The business was born from a love of food and entertaining, having regularly hosted events at home during their time together, whether it be an all-guns-blazing Halloween party, or a New Years Day breakfast-in-pyjamas party for 25 of their family and friends!
This is their venture into business together, Mike having been senior management of a very successful business in Gloucester for a number of years, and Rex having built his career in hospitality management. They find that their skills and experience complement each others, and always try to find efficiency in everything they do.
They have faced adversity in setting up their business, as they were due to open right at the beginning of the Covid-19 pandemic in 2020. Having signed contracts to take over the previous business occupying the premises in February 2020 and starting their refit, they soon discovered that the country would be entering lockdown on March 23rd, just weeks before their planned launch. They decided to delay the launch until May, when they opened for takeaway and then opened for business properly in July 2020. Since launching they have developed a fiercely loyal client base, many of whom have become friends as well as customers!
Throughout their journey, they have always focused on their main goal, to provide good quality, home cooked food and drinks to the people of Cheltenham. This focus on their goal led to them being awarded BID Business of the Month in September 2020, just two months after launching their business, as well as being interviewed about their business as part of Small Business Saturday’s 2020 virtual tour, being nominated for Best Cafe in Gloucestershire and Best New Covid Business in the 2021 Muddy Stiletto Awards, and receiving this glowing review from Gloucestershire Live!
Chapter Two
May 2022
The lease came to an end at our much loved Cheltenham site, and we felt that we had out grown the premises, so were on the lookout for a bigger location. We were lucky enough to find our new property on Westgate Street, and being from Gloucester, it really felt like an opportunity for us to come back home, an opportunity that we couldn’t let slip. Over the course of twelve weeks, we completely revamped the premises, incorporating a carvery station so that our much loved Sunday roasts are available all year round. We have been lucky enough to have been granted a licence which enables us to run a full bar, hence the change of name to Mister’s Cafe & Bistro.

Fun Fact:
The 'M' and 'R' within the logo are both underlined to showcase 'M' for Mike and 'R' for Rex, and together their initials spell MR, hence Mister’s. Since opening, their customers have come to affectionately refer to them as Mr Mike and Mr Rex!
